An Afghan boy receives treatment in a Khost province hospital in the wake of a deadly suicide blast.

The attack in Afghanistan's volatile eastern region killed at 14 people, including three NATO soldiers and four police officers.

Six civilians also were killed and another 37 wounded.

This man said the blast threw him from his feet.

A witness told Reuters the suicide bomber targeted a patrol by U.S. soldiers.

Local authorities say the bomber attacked using a motorcycle strapped with explosives.

The Taliban claimed responsibility, however, the group is often quick to claim any violence against foreign troops.

The blast follows a deadly gunfight between insurgents and NATO forces that killed two American soldiers on Sunday.

That incident took the death toll of U.S. military and civilians in the 11-year-Afghanistan war to over 2,000.
