Suitcase in hand, twenty-somethings line up by the hundreds looking for work in the big-city.

This group is hoping to get hired at Foxconn-- a factory that makes iPhones in the northern Chinese city of Taiyuan (tie-you-en).

An abundance of migrant workers in this town keeps wages low, but Foxconn is known to have some of the best salaries.

(SOUNDBITE) (Mandarin) 20-YEAR-OLD GOING FOR INTERVIEW AT FOXCONN, LI JIANG SAYING:

"People are often worried about things like not getting paid wages, and not getting good work conditions. Wages here in Taiyuan aren't usually very high, around 1,500 yuan (a month) (240 U.S. dollars), not very high. But here the lowest wage is better than that."

Earlier in the week, 40 workers were injured in a brawl involving thousands of workers and thousands of Foxconn security.

Although details remain sketchy, some workers told Reuters the fight was a backlash over rough security and a culture of cruel managers.

Analysts say given the size of the nearly 80,000 employee complex, things like this are bound to happen.

"...Some of these outlets - some are the same size as cities in the western world."

For now, workers repair windows damaged in the brawl, as the lure of high wages keeps potential employees clamouring for a job.
