Police and protesters opposing a new round of government spending cuts have clashed in the Spanish capital Madrid.

Thousands of people rallied under the protest banner 'Occupy Congress'. The Spanish parliament is expected to propose new reforms on Thursday aimed at reducing the national deficit.
