A video of a female protester being beaten at a march in Russia is gaining attention.
On Saturday protests swept across Russia calling for the resignation of Russia’s president Vladimir Putin.
Police told local media that the protesters had provoked the conflict.
The police officer was identified and an investigation is underway.
The woman is Yekaterina Zaitseva, a local resident in the small town where the protest took place.
She is part of the Russian opposition movement and served as a spokesperson for the local branch of the “Other Russia.”
Fellow protesters called for an ambulance after helping her to the ground.
