New Yorkers and guests at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel had the opportunity see a unique display of fashion with the Art of Zhen Shan Ren or Truth Compassion Tolerance.

The art exhibition was held together with Couture Fashion Week over the past weekend.

[James Smith, ZSR Art Exhibition Coordinator]:

“This was a phenomenal opportunity. There’re people here from all over the world. A lot of people fly in from Europe just for this event—Couture Fashion Week."

“The organizers are very understanding of what we’re doing and they’re hoping we can be part of that.”

The exhibition tells the story of Falun Gong—a spiritual practice the Chinese regime has been persecuting since 1999.

It explores both the inner spiritual experiences and the harsh outer reality of the persecution.

[James Smith, ZSR Art Exhibition Coordinator]:

“We’ve the beautiful, the tranquility of the meditation you see outside but it starts to contrast with the persecution, and some vivid ones that you’ll see a little later perhaps, of people actually being persecuted.”

Zhen Shan Ren Art International Exhibition Coordinator William Cheung says the exhibit plays a valuable role.

[William Cheung, ZSR Art International Exhibition Coordinator]:

“One of the key value is really reflected in the theme of this exhibition, which is truth, compassion, and tolerance.”

“You see some of the figures portrayed here. They’re practicing Falun Gong and they carry the value of truth, compassion, and tolerance, despite the ongoing severe persecution in last 13 years…they stay firm for their faith and belief and they always use peaceful, non-violent means to appeal to the world about what happens in terms of human rights violations in China.”

Pace University Law Student Christine Holton says the art exhibit has special meaning for her.

[Christine Holton, Pace University Law Student]:

“My family is very religious and spirituality is always a part of my life. The feeling of comfort and harmony and the style in which it was illustrated it spoke to that side that I don’t often see in current media or in illustrations that I usually see.”

Since 2004, the global art exhibition has been displayed in more than 140 cities and more than 40 countries
