Pop star George Michael made a triumphant return to the stage on Tuesday night, after fighting for his life ten months earlier.

The former Wham! frontman had been in the middle of a European tour when he was diagnosed with severe pneumonia, forcing him to cancel a string of dates.

Michael fell ill in Vienna, and spent a month in the city's General Hospital under intensive care.

Therefore it was only fitting that pop star resumed his tour in the Austrian capital.

And to thank all those who cared for him, Michael donated 1,000 tickets to the hospital.

300 hospital staff attended the show, with the other 700 tickets being sold to raise money for lung disease research.

Fans are just pleased to see the singer well and back on stage.

[Ken, George Michael Fan from Hellensburgh, Scotland]:
"I think his voice is better than ever and and tonight's performance will be something really special because I think George feels he owes his life to the people in Austria and this is his way of repaying them. They saved his life."

The rest of the Symphonica tour will take Michael to other major European cities including Paris and London.
