US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived in Beijing today, beginning an official visit that's once again shadowed under a specter of looming diplomacy.

Clinton's last visit coincided with the escape of blind Chinese dissident, Chen Guangcheng. This time, the Secretary of State arrived amidst a territorial dispute regarding a group of islands in the South China Sea.

Today Clinton met Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi in Beijing for talks.

Secretary Clinton has pledged to deliver a strong message to the Chinese regime this week as she toured Asia. The US is urging for clam as regional tensions over maritime disputes have raised broader fears of military friction.

While visiting Jakarta on Monday, Clinton urged China and its Southeast Asian neighbors to move quickly on a code of conduct for the South China Sea.

Many note that Clinton's words, along with the US's policy on the disputes, seem to be getting her a relatively cold reception from China's state-run press.

State-run Global Times, a derivative of Communist Party mouthpiece the People's Daily, ran a critical editorial on Clinton on Tuesday.

Chinese leader Hu Jintao and leader-in-waiting Xi Jinping will meet with Secretary Clinton tomorrow.
