Syria's Assad offers new elections

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad has ordered a referendum on a new draft constitution, to be held in less than two weeks.

It could allow for a multi-party parliament and shorter presidential terms but opposition figures have already rejected the announcement, saying Assad must step down.

They question how people will be expected to vote when they are facing daily attacks by government troops.
