Pakistani Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf appeared before the Supreme Court on Monday (August 27) for what could be a fight for his political survival in a contempt case for his failure to re-open corruption investigations against President Asif Ali Zardari.

Ashraf arrived to court in a white Land Cruiser, and waved outside the entrance before walking inside surrounded by supporters and security.

Pakistan's Supreme Court last month ordered Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf to re-open corruption cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.

Pakistan's previous prime minister, Yusuf Raza Gilani, was ousted from his job by the Supreme Court after he was convicted of contempt of court for failing to restart work on the cases against the president, who also heads the ruling Pakistan People's Party (PPP).
