Yesterday we reported on the tragic death of Japanese journalist Mika Yamamoto, killed during a gunfight between Syrian forces and rebels in the besieged city of Aleppo.
Today we bring you harrowing footage of the final hours of the award winning journalist's life, as she follows the Free Syria Army to the front lines of the conflict.
Please be warned that you may find the following scenes disturbing.
[Yamamoto, Journalist Operating the Video Camera]:
"They are shooting indiscriminately. They are dropping bombs on to the town from bombers on to people running about one after the other without discrimination…. We are heading right now to the front lines where they have just bombed the town with three bombs. We believe there's been considerable damage. We are heading out there to investigate."
Despite the heavy fighting and the proximity of the bombing, local residents are still trying to live their lives as normally as possible, some even walking the blood stained streets with babes in arms.
[Yamamoto, Journalist Operating the Video Camera]:
"Aren't you a cute one? What are you looking at?"
Yamamoto and her husband and colleague Kazutaka Sato witness locals fleeing as youths help the Free Syria Army set up a barricade.
Next - a single gunshot and the footage freezes.
When Kazutaka Sato next saw his wife she was dead and peppered with bullet wounds.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has confirmed that the clash in which Yamamoto was killed took place in the Suleimaniya district of Aleppo, the scene of heavy fighting between government and rebel forces.
At least 18,000 people have now been killed in Syria since the anti-Assad revolt began.
