50 Homeowners Discover Marijuana Farms in Homes - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.

Renting out your own home can be a stressful ordeal. However, homeowners in suburban Texas neighborhoods have found themselves in a far more difficult situation after reportedly renting out their homes to criminals.

The Drug Enforcement Administration raided more than 50 upscale, residential houses that were involved in a marijuana growing operation. The bust involved three counties, with investigators finding the homes allegedly filled with the drug and technical equipment. An affected landlord says that she carefully looked into her tenant's application, checking references, job history and credit. However, her home was one of the dozens that were raided and she has not been able to enter the house to estimate damages. She also claims the damages will not be covered by the insurance company. Thus far, almost two dozen people have been arrested and officials believe they are part of an “Asian crime ring”.

Earlier this summer a North Carolina landlord discovered a marijuana growing system set up in his own home. Investigators called the operation an elaborate “production line”.
