As the US scales down its troop presence in Afghanistan, the Afghan army is taking on more responsibilities.

Foreign combat troops are due to leave the country at the end of 2014.
Al Jazeera's Bernard Smith travels to Paktika province in the east of the country, where the Afghan army and police are beginning to take a leading role in providing security.
