It has been 30 years since the first case of HIV was diagnosed. Despite a leap in progress in the treatment of the virus that causes AIDS, the disease continues to be a major struggle for more than 30 million people across the world.

In China, an estimated 750,000 people have the virus and analysts say the numbers will continue to rise because an HIV/AIDS social stigma is undermining the fight against the disease.

Al Jazeera's Andrew Thomas reports from the central Chinese city of Ningling, where HIV carriers are reportedly harassed by fellow residents.
