Car Thief Feels Guilty And Turns Himself In - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.
Who said that all criminals are callous? One good-hearted man’s walk on the wild side was over after one day, when his conscience got the better of him.
On July 31st, a 20-year-old Tennessee man voluntarily turned himself in for a crime spree. Austin Sparks casually walked into the Mt. Juliet Police Department and told officers that he wanted to do the right thing. He confessed to breaking into 6 vehicles and stealing the last one, a white pick-up truck. Allegedly, Sparks first drove the stolen truck to a McDonald’s restaurant and began feeling remorseful for his actions, leading him to drive the stolen vehicle to the parking lot of the police department.
A police sergeant states “I’ve been with this department for eight years and I have never come across something like this, where someone has a change of heart. It is very uncommon to have someone willingly confess to crimes.” He goes on to say “Hopefully he is now on the right track in life. Hopefully, when he does go to court, the good deed could be considered.”
