A religious group in the United States which at one time supported slavery and opposed the black civil rights movement is about to make history.

The Southern Baptist Convention is electing an African-American as its president. Fred Luter, Jr. is due to take on the leadership of the organisation at its annual gathering later this month.

Al Jazeera's Alan Fisher reports from New Orleans on the changes within the church.
