Months after Libya was liberated from the forces of former leader Muammar Gaddafi, the country has still to cobble together a national army.

The armed groups or so-called brigades still dot the streets of Libya as the country's defence minister has a tough task in appointing a chief of the army - the first step in uniting the brigades and creating an army.

Residents want these patrolling men off the streets as they have been involved in many deadly street battles in the past weeks.

Imran Khan reports from the capital, Tripoli.
