Barack Obama is due to arrive in Australia on Wednesday for his first visit as president of the United States.

He was forced to cancel two previous trips because of events at home.

The US leader is expected to sign a deal on military co-operation and announce closer military ties, including the details of an expanded US military presence in Australia.
