A Ugandan opposition leader, Kizza Besigye, was released without charge hours after being detained by police for the second time this month.

Besigye was participating in an "walk to work" protest against high prices and government corruption when he was arrested.

His arrest was sharply critcised by the UK-based rights organisation, Amnesty International, in a report on Monday which states that lack of tolerance by Ugandan authorities towards critics is leading to repressive policies and restrictions on media and rights activists.

Al Jazeera's Malcolm Webb reports from Kampala.
