Al Jazeera has been following a Mexican family that moved to Veracruz state in the hope of escaping drug-related crimes.

Their story forms part of a series on how ordinary families have been affected by some of the most harrowing events this year.

Meanwhile, in what is being seen as a major victory for Felipe Calderon, the Mexican president, the Mexican army says it has captured the head of security for one of the world's most wanted men.

The suspect, who has not been identified, allegedly works for Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, the boss of Mexico's Sinaloa drug cartel who escaped from prison in 2001.

An army spokesman said the suspect would appear in front of the media on Monday.

Al Jazeera's Rachel Levin reports from Veracruz.
