Years of poor phone and internet services in Gaza are about to end after the region's operator installed new equipment to revamp the system.

And while a second operator is set to come online in 2012, the region remains plagued by a series of other problems, including Israeli occupation.

While Israel takes anything from eight to 12 months to approve the import of any new equipment for the Occupied Territories, Israeli companies wait about two weeks, says the service provider.

Al Jazeera's Nicole Johnson reports from Gaza.
