A congressional hearing into "radicalisation" of America's Muslims has led to widespread accusations of Islamophobia.

The debate has led civil liberties groups and prominent Muslim Americans to raise concerns about religious intolerance in US politics.

André Carson is one of two Muslims serving in the US Congress. Carson, the US Representative for Indiana's 7th congressional district, attended the House Committee on Homeland Security on Thursday.

He told Al Jazeera that there are other more pressing threats to domestic security.
