The army in south Sudan has pledged to demobilise all child soldiers by the end of the year ahead of January's referendum, which will determine the fate of the south.

During the civil war, the rebel forces are said to have recruited thousands of children into special units known as the Red Army.

There are an estimated 900 children carrying weapon for south Sudan. But army commanders have said they are moving to de-list all children from the service.
