Many former reservoir workers in Hungary are blaming authorities for a dam's wall breach that unleashed a flood of deadly toxic waste into several villages and major waterways last Monday.

They say the aluminum plant's reservoir had been in a dangerous state for decades and accuse the authorities of refusing to modernise it.

The red sludge spill killed seven people and injured 123 others as it destroyed many houses. Thousands of residents were evacuated from homes in the west of the country.

Anita McNaught reports from western Hungary.
