"The Dark Knight" trilogy ends on a tragic note.

12 people were killed at a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" after a masked gunman opened fire on moviegoers in Colorado.

Police said the gunman, from the Denver area, appeared at the front of the theater during the movie and released a gas canister before gunfire erupted.

Roughly fifty people, including children, were wounded in the attack, some of whom were treated for the effects of tear gas.

Police said they took the suspect into custody in the parking lot behind the theater.

Authorities have named the alleged shooter as 24-year-old James Eagan Holmes.

The film's studio, Warner Bros., has since canceled the movie's Paris premiere.

For now, the film's Mexico City premiere on July 23 will go on as scheduled.

Bollywood goes into mourning.

Thousands, including India's biggest stars, gathered for the funeral of actor Rajesh Khanna.

His admirers lined the streets as a flower-bedecked truck carried the actor's body in a glass casket with white flowers.

Known for his shy smile and flamboyant looks, Khanna was often referred to as Bollywood's first real superstar.

The 69-year-old actor died of an undisclosed illness.

Troubled musician Pete Doherty has been "therapeutically discharged" from rehab.

The former Libertines' frontman was asked to leave a high-end facility in Thailand called The Cabin -- after three weeks of treatment.

British press reports said Doherty had been thrown out for disruptive behavior - claims denied by the center, which said he was simply not ready to complete the rehab course

and discharged.

The famously disheveled songwriter has tried to kick his longstanding addiction problem on numerous occasions.
