The dome of Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa mosque glistens in the early morning sun.

It's the first Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and amid tight Israeli security Palestinian worshipers make their way to prayers.

Al-Aqsa is the third holiest mosque in Sunni Islam.

Israeli police said restrictions had been partially lifted for the first time in recent years, but many Palestinian men are still denied access to the old city of Jerusalem.

Palestinian women have easier access and thousands made their way through check-points on Friday morning from the West Bank town of Ramallah.
