At least two senior police officials with close ties to Wang Lijun have been arrested in Chongqing according to police contacts in the area.
The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection seems to be moving in on police officials connected with Wang Lijun and Bo Xilai, suggesting the investigation into their actions is at a critical stage.
The New York Times reported on July 6 that Deputy Director of Chongqing Municipal Public Security Bureau, Tang Jianhua and former Yubei Branch Secretary, Wang Pengfei were escorted out of Chongqing.
Chinese central authorities have also confirmed that Li Yang, Captain of Chongqing Public Security Bureau Criminal Police Corps, has been taken into custody.
Li is thought to have close ties with Wang as well. Both he and Wang Pengfei came from Liaoning, Where Wang Lijun used to hold a position, to take part in the "Beat the Black" campaign—what they called a campaign against organized crime.
Tang Jianhua is also considered one of Wang Lijun's close allies.
One source close to the police said that the investigation had assigned many officials to collect evidence of torture by the Chongqing police in recent years.
Another viewpoint is that Wang Lijun helped in the investigation of Bo Xilai's scandal.

"A meeting at Beidaihe will be held by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in August. This will be to determine the arrangement of senior levels. Prior to this, they must have a definitive result of the Wang Lijun and Bo Xilai cases."
Wang Lijun was considered the right-hand man of former Chongqing Party chief, Bo Xilai. Then in February he suddenly fled to the US Consulate in Chengdu. Wang was almost certainly carrying with him incriminating information on his boss. The incident caused China's worst political scandal in a decade.
Wang disappeared but is believed to be under investigation. Last month, Wang supposedly resigned from his posts in a handwritten letter. Curiously, it was written in traditional Chinese, which is not the norm in Mainland China.
The New York Times quoted political observers in Chongqing and Beijing who said Wang Lijun may be charged with treason.
