Researchers Invent Healthier Pizza - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.

A team in Scotland has come up with a recipe for the healthiest pizza pie, containing 30 percent of your body’s daily nutrients including vitamins and minerals, protein, calories and carbohydrates. Eat Balanced owner Donnie MacLean and Professor Mike Lean from the University of Glasgow have worked together to create a healthier frozen pizza than any that are currently on the market. A study of frozen pizzas revealed how unbalanced they are. Professor Lean said, "They contain as much salt as you should have in a whole day or more. They contain as much saturated fat as you should have in a whole day or more."

The Food and Drug Administration has called for pizza restaurant chains to post the nutritional facts about their product for customers to see but companies like “Domino’s, Papa John’s, Little Caesars, Godfather’s Pizza and Pizza Hut” are fighting against the effort claiming the ingredients and recipes are too diverse to make a uniform system for them to implement, and they say putting the numbers for a whole pie might be misleading to consumers who eat an average of 2.1 pieces per serving.
