Eighteen of Tuli's early drawings have been included in a recent art show in Soho, New York. The show is called "Group Shoe," from Gavin Brown Enterprises, 620 Greenwich Street, NYC. For a limited time they will be on display, then they will published in book of Tuli's early works. Less insistently anarcho-pacifist political than his later cartoons, still they showed his characteristic humorous, satiric slant. The topics here are observations of the local beat poetry and art scene, proverbs turned on their heads, the arts, religion, Bible stories and characters. The line drawing style recalls James Thurber, John Lennon, Saul Steinberg. The last part of this slide show comes from "Selected Fruits and Nuts," a pamplhet Tuli published in 1959. The song, "I Am an Artist for Arts Sake," can be found on "Be Free," the Fugs Final CD part 2.
