A child is dead after a suspected gas explosion destroyed a house - and damaged several others - in northern England on Tuesday.

Officials said at least one person was injured - and treated for burns.

Anthony Brennan's house was damaged in the blast.

"Totally, every window came through, all the doors came off, half the roof, the same with my mate's house - half his house has totally disappeared. It's the same with the other one on the other end, totally gone."

Local media reported emergency workers continued to comb through the rubble - but did not expect to find any more casualties.

The cause of the blast - is under investigation.
