STORY: The Speaker of Myanmar's Upper House, Khin Aung Myint, visited the Vietnamese president and other officials in Hanoi on Friday (June 22), during an official four-day trip to the country.

Khin was greeted by the Vietnamese chairmen of the National Assembly, Nguyen Sinh Hung, before the two counterparts sat down for a bilateral meeting.

Khin was also welcomed by Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang and is expected to meet meet Party Chief Nguyen Phu Trong later in the day.

Vietnam regularly meets with Myanmar to discuss regional and international issues and both have taken an active role in ASEAN.

Vietnam and Myanmar established diplomatic ties on May 28, 1975, shortly after the war in Vietnam.
