One of the few achievements of the FIRST Rio Earth Summit 20 years ago was the UN Convention on Biological Diversity. Its prime objective was to conserve natural habitats, by allowing genetic material to be used as a natural resource. But many say the concept is easier said than done. Tom Ackerman reports.
