Desmonte Leonard turned himself in to police on Tuesday after three men were shot dead at a party in the U.S. state of Alabama.

Three others were wounded in the incident in Auburn on Saturday.

Police chief Tommy Dawson announced the development.

SOUNDBITE: AUBURN POLICE DEPARTMENT CHIEF TOMMY DAWSON SAYING (English):

"Most of all I want to say thank you to the parents of these victims. I know your young men won't be coming home but hopefully this arrest will give you some closure. It's not over. We're going to continue to investigate this case, we're going to move forward. It's a new day tomorrow. But we'll never forget the victims in this case, and we'll never forget what happened last Saturday night."

Leonard's facing three charges and murder and two more of assault.

Two other men have been charged with hindering the hunt for him.
