Mr. Marshall's goal is to illustrate "... the plight of the almost forgotten colored people." He wishes "to preserve the pride, dignity, courage, and survival of a people's journey from slavery to freedom. A people whose lives have been bent, but not broken."His images ..."are emotive and powerfully expressionistic mixed media collage paintings created from paper dolls, line, color, shapes and symbols through which he expresses the spirit and dignity of the African American journey."
