Uruguay is investigating claims that four members of the Uruguayan contingent of the UN peacekeeping force in Haiti raped an 18-year-old Haitian boy.

The country's defence minister said authorities would find out exactly what happened and that there would be tough action if the allegations are proved.

However, there is already confusion over the investigations being conducted.

A UN probe is said to have found "no intent at sexual assault". Yet the UN has stated that there have been no findings from any preliminary investigations.

Opposition members in Uruguay told Al Jazeera that they were told there had been a preliminary report.

Al Jazeera's Teresa Bo reports from Montevideo.
