Australians are set to head to the polls this weekend to vote in a general election.

Latest opinion polls suggest Julia Gillard, the prime minister, could win by a narrow margin over opposition leader Tony Abbott's conservative coalition.

Both leaders have been talking tough on immigration, making a crackdown on asylum seekers a key election issue.
