US diplomats have arrived in Mexico to meet with their counterparts after three people connected to the US Consulate were killed by suspected drug gang members.

The FBI has sent agents to the border city of Ciudad Juarez to help investigate the killings of a pregnant employee, her husband and the Mexican husband of another consulate staff member.

In total nearly 50 people have been killed in Mexico over the past three days in apparent gang violence.
