Italy PM pledges aid after new quake

Officials are responding to a deadly earthquake that shook northern Italy on Monday.

At least ten people were killed in the 5.8 magnitude quake and officials believe several people were still trapped under the rubble.

Prime Minister Mario Monti pledged to act immediately.

(SOUNDBITE) (Italian) PRIME MINISTER, MARIO MONTI, SAYING:

"I would like to assure everyone that the Italian State will do everything we must do and that is possible to do in the shortest possible time to guarantee the return to normal life in this area, that is so special, so important, so productive for Italy."

The quake struck near Modena and was felt across much of northern and central Italy.

It's the second earthquake to hit the region in the past week.
