A Boeing 737 was forced to make a dramatic emergency landing in California, after a gaping hole ripped open its fuselage.

The noise was like a gunshot, those aboard tell Al Jazeera.

There were only minor injuries among the 123 people on board, but for the passengers abroad, the descent on Friday was a terrifying experience.

US airline Southwest has grounded 81 of its Boeing 737 fleet following the incident.

Al Jazeera's John Metherell speaks with some of the passengers about what happen as the plane fell from the sky.
