The announcement included a six-point pact which included vows such as "not knowingly [working] with models under the of 16 or who appear to have an eating disorder." American, French, Chinese and British editions of Vogue will start following these guidelines with their June editions, while the Japanese magazine will hold off until July.

Jonathan Newhouse, chairman of Conde Nast International, told the public, "Vogue editors around the world want the magazines to reflect their commitment to the health of the models who appear on the pages and the wellbeing of their readers."

Israel was one of the first countries to take initiative on this issue, banning skinny models from the catwalks and advertisements in hopes to create a better body image for the youth of the country.
