ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION

Chinese authorities rescued a two year old whose leg became trapped in a drainage canal in southwest China on Friday.

The boy was playing outside in a residential area when he accidentally jammed his right leg inside the small drain opening, according to his mother.

The rescuers started by clearing away the concrete sealant around the drainage canal cover, and then proceeded to try and crack the two concrete bars which were holding the child's leg in place using a hydraulic door opener.

As they were unable to pull the child's leg out on their first attempt, due to the thickness of the eight-centimetre concrete bars, the team proceeded by clearing away more of the sealant and using a hydraulic expander.

The boy was finally rescued with only minor injuries.
