In Cairo, protesters clashed with toops guarding Egypt's Defence Ministry

Hundreds took to the streets in city to demand the ruling military council transfer power immediately. Demonstrators say they've been subject to violence for speaking out against the military and are furious that some political candidates were excluded from the election.

Earlier in the week, the military council promised to hand over power to the new president by the middle of the year. Tension regarding the country's leadership coupled with an economic crisis has complicated Egypt's efforts to move forward.
