Microsoft's billionaire founder Bill Gates will relinquish control of day-to-day operations at the software giant on Friday.

He'll stay on as Microsoft Chairman, but will concentrate most of his energies on his charitable trust.

Its work includes trying to find new vaccines, and financing projects in the developing world.
