At least two people are dead from a blast that targeted a newspaper in Nigeria. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

A suicide car bomber targeted the offices of Nigerian newspaper This Day in the capital Abuja on Thursday.
At least two people are killed, officials and witnesses said.

[Samson Oliver, Eyewitness]:
"I was sleeping when I heard a heavy noise and when I woke up with shock and fear, I saw everywhere was so dark, something like smoke everywhere. I ran out and saw it was a bomb explosion."

Soldiers and police closed-off the area, while emergency workers rescued victims.

Security guards had tried to stop the bomber from entering the grounds.

[Iweagbu Isreal, Executive Director, This Day]:
"Well, this morning at about nine o'clock, a suicide bomber forced his way through this back gate and when he was challenged by security men, of course he forced his way in and in the process the vehicle exploded here, an SUV you know. And the security men who were on duty here, about two of them lost their lives and another one was taken to the hospital. The suicide bomber of course he is dead too, then five of our support staff were seriously injured. They are now in the hospital."

Emergency workers said around 15 people had been taken to hospital with injuries from the blast.

Also on Thursday, a second suicide bomber targeted This Day's offices in the northern city of Kaduna, killing one person.

This Day is based in southern Nigeria and is broadly supportive of President Goodluck Jonathan's government, the main target for Islamist insurgent group Boko Haram.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bombings.
