Officers used tear gas to break up the annual event when they said students became unruly.
They said nearly 3, 000 were involved in the disturbance during the annual 'College Fest' celebration near Kent State University in Ohio on Saturday (April 21).
Ohio police told local media at least 30 people had been arrested by Sunday morning.
Students said police arrived in riot gear and had used tear gas and stun grenades to break up the crowd.
