Anders Behring Breivik pled not guilty at his trial on Monday, but admitted to committing the killing of 77 people.Defiantly saluting before taking his seat, the 33-year old mass killer claimed self-defense, and also rejected the authority of the court.
[Anders Behring Breivik]:
"I do not recognise the Norwegian courts. You have received your mandate from political parties which support multiculturalism."

In the Oslo courtroom, prosecutors read the charges brought against Breivik.

[Public Prosecutor Inga Bejer Engh]:
"Indictment. The public prosecutor of Oslo hereby indicts Anders Behring Breivik, born February 13, 1979. Pursuant to section 39 of the penal code for sentence to be passed for his transfer to compulsory mental health care - confer chapter five of the mental health care act for having, in a psychotic state committed a punishable crime."They then detailed the attacks from July 22nd."

Breivik opened gunfire at a youth summer camp on an island shortly after a car-bomb rocked Oslo, set off outside of government offices.

They played an emergency phone call, made from the camp, where gunshots and screaming could be heard in the background. Breivik seemed emotionless throughout, but broke down in tears when his own propaganda video, originally posted online, was played.
He also smiled when illustrations of the car bomb attack were displayed.

[Mette Yvonne Larson, Legal Counsel for Victims of Massacre]:

"He was not responding when they read the indictment, which was one-and-a-half hour of terrible things he has done, but he was crying a little bit when his own movie was shown on the screen and I think that's because he has this personality, he fells sorry for himself and not for the other victims."
Last week, a report found Breivik to be sane, after an initial examination concluded he was psychotic.
