Despite the typical health benefits of drinking water a new study shows that children who drink bottled water have more cavities than those who drink tap water. Dr. Marc Siegel and Dr. David Samadi discuss what may be causing this discrepancy in oral health statistics. Dr. Siegel points out that we have been adding fluoride to tap water since the 1940's which helps to strengthen enamel and prevent cavities. However, a recent study has shown that 45% of parents are giving their children only bottled water; with only 15% of bottled water sold containing fluoride. Typically bottled water has all minerals, including fluoride filtered out.
