Rihanna pulls out the big guns - as she arrived on the blue carpet to premiere her big screen debut, "Battleship".

The five-time Grammy award winning singer-turned-actress was joined by fellow cast members Taylor Kitsch, Brooklyn Decker and Alexander Skarsgard of "True Blood" fame in Tokyo on Tuesday (April 3).

In the movie, which is based on the popular Hasbro board game, Rihanna plays a daredevil naval officer who fights alien intruders.

SOUNDBITE: Rihanna, singer-turned-actress, saying (English):

"I play a pretty bad-ass chick in the film and the whole film is bad-ass. It's really fun and a lot of action and I think you guys are going to love it. So, enjoy."

Well, she certainly seemed to enjoy the action - a change of scene that couldn't be more different to her pop star life.

SOUNDBITE: Rihanna, singer-turned-actress, saying (English):

"I wanted a role that was a huge departure from anything that was my real life, and when I met with Peter Berg [sic] he went through this role with me. I was really intrigued because it was really not glamorous at all, it was really physical and it was different. And I thought my fans would appreciate that."

Rihanna's acting debut has garnered lots of interest from fans and media, as well as from some of her pop star colleagues.

SOUNDBITE: Pixie Lott, British singer-songwriter, saying (English):

"I saw Rihanna at the airport and she told me about the premiere. So, that's I guess I was lucky because I didn't know it was going on here. But she's, I'm sure she's going to be amazing. I'm looking forward to seeing her in the movie."

So plenty of anticipation and excitement in the air - "Battleship" is expected to sail into theatres worldwide on May 18.
