Myanmar's pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi has won a seat in parliament, according to her party, in a historic moment for the country's transition to democracy.

The opposition National League for Democracy claimed the Nobel Laureate had easily gained the majority of votes in her constituency just outside the city of Yangon.
