For one night only, the 1992 film "The Bodyguard" returned to more than 400 movie theaters around the U.S on Wednesday (March 28), playing at 7:30pm in each time zone.

The film, which provided Whitney Houston her acting debut, featured the singer as a pop-star who hires a bodyguard, played by Kevin Costner, to protect her from a stalker making violent threats. The lines of their professional versus personal relationship are blurred when the duo falls in love.

Houston, who died in February after accidentally drowning in her hotel bathroom, was said to be nervous about the part. Costner, who spoke at the singer's funeral, said he fought the film studio in order to have Houston in the starring role of the movie.

Fans of all backgrounds crowded into a movie theater in Times Square, New York to enjoy the nostalgia of the release.

The film's album featuring Houston's chart-topping songs "I will Always Love You" and "I'm Every Woman" was the best-selling soundtrack of all time with roughly 12 million copies sold in the U.S. The movie brought in 410 million U.S. dollars worldwide, an astonishing amount for that time.

"The Bodyguard 20th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray" will be released on March 27.
