South Korean special forces showcased their security capabilities in a drill Tuesday, by reacting to a mock attack at the venue of an upcoming nuclear summit.

(SOUNDBITE) (Korean) HEAD OF KANGNAM FIRE STATION, CHOI UNG-SAWP, SAYING:

"This is a combined drill by civilians, government officials and military officers to support the Nuclear Security Summit, to prepare for emergencies such as fires, and to show our determination for the success of the summit."

The special forces team had to react to different hypothetical situations, ranging from fire, to responding to biochemical weapons.

One simulated situation involved an attacker, who took a busload of people hostage.

The special forces team then demonstrated their way of saving the hostages and capturing the attacker eventually.

A leader of the team said he believes they are ready for the summit.

(SOUNDBITE) (Korean) HEAD OF SPECIAL COMMANDO GROUP OF POLICE, HWANG CHEON-SUNG, SAYING:

"More than 50 heads of state will participate in the Nuclear Security Summit. Our special commando group members are ready to handle any situation."

The nuclear summit will be held from March 26 to 27, and leaders from 53 nations, including the U.S., Russia, China and Japan will be attending.
